By foreseeing these circumstances university of Rawalpindi hosted an insightful training session on “Personality Development and Emotional Intelligence” this workshop was given by one of the esteemed speakers Dr. Rimsha Iqbal a very well qualifies scholar and Assistant Professor from Riphah International University. The motive of this workshop was to give students some awareness sessions and some tools to understand themselves better. Build emotional awareness and unlock personal growth.

Who is Dr. Rimsha Iqbal

 

Dr. Rimsha Iqbal is a prominent academician and trainer in her field especially in the department of leadership, human resources, organizational psychology, organizational theory and design. As an assistant professor at Riphah International university. She has years of experience in understanding human behavior, emotional intelligence and leadership as she is from Human resource Management domain so in order to recruit an individual, she knows by seeing which talent to recruit and who will be beneficial for the designation. She has trained many individuals, students, and personals to enhance their emotional well-being, and overall personalities.

Her session at the University of Rawalpindi drew on her expertise, research findings, and practical tactics to give attendees with actionable knowledge.

Aim of the Workshop and its Importance

The workshop on personality development and emotional intelligence aim was to help students to tell them the importance of self-awareness, and emotional regulations in the personal and professional lives.

Key Points of the Workshops

The session was highly interactive because of Dr. Rimsha Iqbal as she gave students the real-life examples, it was a group discussion type and, in the end, there was a question-and-answer session as well.

1. Understanding Emotional Intelligence

Dr. Rimsha started the workshop by teaching students about emotional intelligence and its parts using model known as Daniel Goleman’s EI Model as a framework

  1. Self-Awareness: identifying and telling your emotions and their impact on others.
  2. Self-regulations: maintaining emotions in a healthy and constructive manner.
  3. Motivation: Managing emotions to stay focused on goals rather than challenges.
  4. Empathy: understanding other emotions and building healthy relationships
  5. Social Skills: Strong communication skills, Negotiating conflicts, and leadership skills

2. Self-Assessment and Awareness exercise

A highlight of the program was the self-assessment activity, in which students were guided to analyze their emotional intelligence and personality qualities. Dr. Rimsha asked introspective questions such as:

1. What makes you stressed or angry?
2. How would you respond to constructive criticism?
3. When are you most confident in your abilities?

By answering these questions honestly, participants got insight into their emotional routines and places for growth. Many people recognized that self-awareness is the foundation for emotional growth.

3. Role of Emotional Intelligence in Relationships

Dr. Rimsha taught students to indulge into giving lecture that how emotional intelligence directly effects personal and professional relationships. She focused on the importance of active listening, empathetic, and strong emotional intelligence to build connections.

Students were given role-playing exercise where they practiced scenarios involving confusions and conflicts. These activities showcased how applying empathy and clear communication can resolve issues effectively.

Dr. Rimsha made her stance clear that “Your relationship can only be stronger if your emotional intelligence level is high.

4. Managing Stress and Building Resilience

This was one of the most important sessions of the workshop as we all are prone to stress these days as students and professionals in these days have only one thing in mind that is to become successful now in order to become successful, they have to try every strategy and every method to become successful. That’s why Steve Harvey once quoted that:

“In order to live a comfortable life, you have to become uncomfortable”

Some of the tips which Dr. Rimsha provided was:

  1. Identifying stress can trigger you
  2. Practice deep breathing, meditation, and yoga techniques
  3. Reframe challenges as opportunities for growth

She encouraged students to practice a solution-based mindset rather than waiting for the problem to drop its solution. Dr. Rimsha addressed some of the meditation exercises also and asked students to practice after herself.

5. Developing Confidence with Growth Mindset

Dr. Rimsha Iqbal focused on building a growth mindset as said by psychologist Carol Dweck. By believing that abilities and by believing that intelligence and abilities can improve through practice.

Some tips which Dr. Rimsha shared included

  1. Setting small objectives and goals
  2. Celebrating progress instead of progression
  3. Replacing negative self-talk with positive affirmations
